Employees of The Christ Hospital have collected nearly 900 boxes of cereal to benefit students enrolled at William Howard Taft Elementary, located at 270 Southern Ave. in Mt. Auburn. The cereal, packed in 45 cases, was delivered to the school at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15.
The cereal will help fill an unmet need that is experienced by many children enrolled in school meal programs. These programs allow students to start their day with a nutritious breakfast; however, access to these programs may be limited during winter recess. A significant portion of students enrolled at Taft Elementary receive meal benefits. The donated cereal will help ensure students continue to have access to breakfast during their winter break. Studies have shown that students who start their day with breakfast may have better test scores, behavior, memory and problem-solving abilities than peers who do not eat breakfast (Source: U.S. Department of Agriculture).
The cereal will be distributed to students prior to their dismissal from school for the winter break.
